About Shelter Insights
Our mission: to help shelters save and place as many animals as possible by giving their teams clear, data-driven insight for the decisions they make every day.
Every day in a shelter is a decision about capacity, care and placement. We turn shelter data into practical guidance so more animals find homes, faster.
Shelter Insights is a nonprofit effort to give animal shelters free, practical analytics. Most shelters have years of intake and outcome data and no analyst to turn it into decisions. We want to close that gap.
What we believe
- Shorter stays are better for animals, staff and budgets.
- Tools should be free, explain themselves, and keep shelter data private.
- Scores and simulations are decision support to help shelters maximize lives saved and placements. They inform, but do not replace, staff judgment and the shelter's own policies.
Who we are
Shelter Insights was started by a process-improvement and analytics practitioner with more than 15 years of experience as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, working in business intelligence and analytics. They also teach decision support systems as an adjunct graduate instructor. The goal is to bring the same methods used to shorten wait times and cut waste in other industries to the work of getting shelter animals home sooner.
